When you invest in a used cosmetic laser, bear in mind that to keep it in optimal condition it will need to be periodically serviced and technically maintained. At a bare minimum, every cosmetic laser should be calibrated and aligned at least once a year by a qualified technician.

Things to look out for when inspecting a cosmetic laser are:

A hand piece malfunction

Very few pieces of equipment can withstand prolonged and continual use without suffering from wear and tear. Cosmetic laser handpieces are no exception. If a handpiece malfunctions or fails to work, the solution may not be expensive to repair. Frequently, a telephone call to the technician providing the preventive maintenance service can be enough to diagnose the problem. The cost of repair may also be estimated during a telephone diagnosis.

Common components needing periodic replacement

Worn or damaged crystals or diodes, as well as the tiny tubing and O-rings within the equipment, can be quickly replaced by a qualified cosmetic laser technician. The art often lies in detecting exactly which ones have become worn.

Other technical inspections

During protective maintenance services, technicians will also routinely inspect components such as cooling systems, the computer board and circuit board as well as the flash lamps. If damaged or defective, all can be replaced. In addition, the technician will always check the device’s mirror calibrations to ensure that they are precisely as they should be.

The importance of regular preventive maintenance services

Protective maintenance programmes not only prolong the life of the equipment, they ultimately save money, usually by detecting faults and glitches before they have progressed into major, expensive problems. If handpiece problems are detected early, they can usually be completely repaired without the need to replace the whole unit, which would invariably be the more expensive option.
