Another new arc welding electrode is announced by Lincoln Electric Company, Limited, of Welwyn Garden City, Herts. This Company already manufactures a range of hard-surfacing electrodes to meet the different types of water; they were among the first to realize that different types of water require different metals to resist them.
The new Faceweld electrodes are cast abrasion-resisting alloys used for hardfacing by the metallic arc process. Faceweld bonds well with all types of ferrous alloys, and two types are available: No. 1 (Yellow Tip), and no. 12 (Red Tip).
Characteristics of Different Types
No. 1 is a general purpose hardfacing electrode, and is the softer and tougher of the electrodes. It has good abrasion resistance and very high resistance to impact for this class of material. It can be used for surfacing such parts as digger teeth, scarifies, grader blades, cement works machinery, coke handling machinery, clay, brick and tile machinery etc., by arc welding.
No. 12 is applied by arc welding and is somewhat harder than No.1 and has superior resistance to abrasion. Its resistance to impact is said to be excellent for this type of material but not quite as high as No. 1 in this respect. It’s applications include screw conveyors, conveyor sleeves, ploughs, gyratory crushers, power shovel and draggling bucket parts, dredge pump impellers and casings, coal pulveriser jaws, cement mill machinery, such as Bradley and Griffin rings, crusher roll plates, etc.
Both of these new arc welding electrodes are marketed in ¼ in. size, 12in. long, packed in 10lb. and 5lb. containers.
