Milk Plant. Designed and Built by GEA New Zealand - commissioned in Aug 2007. Raw milk storage 170m3, SCM storage 3 tanks each at 17.5m3. Current process: Raw milk is batch standardised using skim milk powder & lactose - which automatically doses via recipe. Evaporator flow 10,000lts per hour - design spec up to 12000lts per hour. Milk is pasteurized by direct seam injection. This flows through a 5 pass MVR caldaria - evaporation takes place - feed solids15% - end of MVR up to 50% total solids. Milk is then Homogenised, then to sugar addition, sugar is automatically dosed according to recipe increase in solids from 50% to approx. 70%. Milk is then sent to the 2 pass TVR where further evaporation takes place with increase in total solids from 70% to 76%. Milk is then flash cooled from 66*C to 30*C - during this process a further 3% water is removed raising final total solids to 78%. Average output of sweetened condensed milk is 5.5T p/hr - this largely depends on recipe and feed solids. Evaporator process 20mins start to finish - evaporator holds 1.5m3 - ramp up and ramp down time 45 mins. Max run time 20 hrs (maybe extended) - CIP required - CIP time 3 hours. Evaporator has its own standalone CIP set - tank & line CIP set seperate - combined use for raw and pasteurized product. All of the plant is CIP'd - no manual cleaning required. All automation is controlled by Rockwell software. Plant meets MPI rules and regulations.
