Kitmondo was very instrumental in the entire process of helping us to secure the Nikon Eclipse E600. They were there in the initial stages of making contacts with the vendor and throughout the entire process to ensure that the transaction was proceeding satisfactory. We were very satisfied with the process and the fee to Kitmondo was very reasonable, although we would prefer to pay the fee when paying for the equipment as one total cost. We would definitely do business with Kitmondo again.

Buyers Guide to a Used Ultrasound Machine

Before buying a used ultrasound machine it’s advisable to be clear about the specific purposes it will be used for (e.g., cardiovascular, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, stress echo, PICC lines, veterinary, etc.). Budget ranges should also be a major concern. Some of the other important factors to consider are:

Do you need shared service ultrasound?
This kind of ultrasound machine integrates all applications in its software, with presets and calculations for OB/GYN, Cardiac and Vascular. They tend to be more expensive, mainly because the software and transducers from the leading manufacturers (Siemens, ATL, GE and Acuson) require separate licensing.

SonoCT and CrossXBeam
These are brand names developed by ATL (Phillips) and GE to describe virtually identical technologies. Instead of the traditional ultrasound machine method of sending signals to the body perpendicular to the probe, these innovations permit signals to be transmitted in as many as 9 different directions. Artefacts are virtually eliminated with this technology.

Advantages of DICOM
All DICOM-compatible medical equipment can be connected to a network enabling full access to all the patient data, printers and store and review images integrated into that network. Non-DICOM ultrasound machines can yield DICOM-compatible images with a DICOM converter (but bear in mind that, although cheaper than a full DICOM upgrade, this method is usually considerably slower).

Possible disadvantages of DICOM
Increasingly, many ultrasound machines have Windows-based computers at their core; Digital and Networking storage and retrieval will almost certainly become much cheaper and simpler to use as a result. DICOM systems, although undoubtedly excellent, are also decidedly more expensive.

How soon do ultrasound machines become outdated?
To be frank, ultrasound technology doesn’t move at an especially fast pace. Although the latest machines are noticeably smaller and more software-driven, the older used ultrasound machines (more than 20 years old) are still highly functional and still being sold
