This is a heavy duty large knee mill that has a bit more travel than a standard Bridgeport. Heavy duty box ways in great condition
Very low hours machine that was purchased out of the enginering department toolroom at Whirlpool. Operators were not allowed to program and run automatic. Right next to this mill sat a standard Bridgeport. You know which machine got the most use. This one looked absolutely new when I purchased it. There has not been much change in the years since.
There is a Prototrak MX3 control installed on the machine with Newall (the best) scales for positioning. The control has been upgraded with a flat screen monitor, and the original CRT was retained in case the control would ever need to go back to Prototrak. Their controls are just swapped out and you will just get one with somebody else's used crt, which in my experience is the weakest part of the control. So keep the flat screen. It is a direct replacement in every respect.
The original quill on the clunky Millport head was always tight and we soon found out why, as the quill housing wore out due to improper installation of the Z axis motor assembly. Rather than do the expensive rebuild/repair on the original head, I opted to replace it with a 2 HP bridgeport head that I had on the shelf. It was a direct replacement in every respect with NO machine work or modifications needed. If you are the purchaser of this mill, you are welcome.
Also included in the package is a Kurt power drawbar, set of R-8 collets, a Kurt 6 inch vise, and the best mister I ever used. In addition, you will receive the DNC cable in the event you want to dnc code down from a computer.
All original manuals will come with the machine.
