The RED Epic Dragon Segunda Mano digital cinema camera is capable of reaching resolutions up to 6K. Equipped with the new RED DRAGON CMOS S35 sensor which has a diagonal size of 34.5mm.
RED Epic Dragon Camera Sensor
The RED Epic Dragon Second Hand Camera has a 19.4 megapixel RED DRAGON CMOS sensor with a maximum working area of 6144 x 3160 pixels in an area of 30.7mm (width) x 15.8mm (height), thus resulting in a diagonal of 34.5 mm. This sensor has been developed to reach high resolutions, and is capable of providing a dynamic range of 16.5 stops. It's an incredibly versatile sensor: from recording at 2.4:1 in 6K RAW or Full Frame to shooting anamorphic in 5K RAW, there's little the DRAGON can't do - it's even capable of shooting up to 300fps in 2K, reducing speed up to 12 times.
Recording Formats RED Epic Dragon Second Hand Camera
Red's recording format par excellence is REDCODE. This file extension effectively encodes measurements from the camera's own digital sensor, maximizing post-production capabilities. The system that RED has designed stores each color channel of the sensor separately, which allows a tremendous amount of information to be modified later. However, and as expected, this type of file so rich in information is also tremendously heavy in terms of storage, which is why the RED Epic Dragon Segunda Mano allows you to apply a compression to the file that varies between 2:1 and 22:1 , thus allowing you to choose the precise balance between quality and file weight. Among the other formats it offers, it also gives the possibility of shooting in RAW from 12 to 16 bits as well as in anamorphic (1.3x and 2x) in any of the available resolutions.
Depending on the chosen image format, the RED Epic Dragon Segunda Mano provides a different maximum frame rate:
– 100fps at full 6K resolution, 2.4:1
– 120fps at 5K, 2.4:1 resolutions and 96fps 5K, Full Frame
– 150fps at 4K, 2.4:1 resolutions
– 200fps at 3K, 2.4:1 resolutions
– Maximum frame rate of 300fps at 2K, 2.4:1
Regarding the basic playback speeds of the project, it allows you to choose several default frame rates: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 47.98, 50, 59.94 and 60fps (regardless of the resolution chosen).
The RED Epic Dragon Second Hand takes advantage of the high data transmission rates provided by RED MINI-MAG cards, exceeding 200MB/s with capacities between 480Gb and 960Gb or 170MB/s choosing capacities of 120Gb and 240Gb.
Monitoring, Remote Control, Audio and Color Camera RED Epic Dragon
The RED Epic Dragon camera is capable of managing live 3D and HDR LUTs thanks to the Redcast module, which allows the already processed signal to be transmitted live to instantly monitor the result of the shot or to broadcast it in broadcast productions.
The camera also has two channels of uncompressed audio, 24-bit at 48 kHz. It also gives us the option of having 4 channels with the AES3 or AES/EBU interface, designed to transmit 4 audio signals in real time without any type of comprehension.
Remote control can be carried out via REDLINK thanks to REDMOTE and RED COMMAND PROTOCOL or bridge modules. It can also be controlled remotely through Ethernet data transmission connection, RS232 and GPI Trigger.
The monitoring options are very diverse. The RED Epic Dragon camera gives us the possibility of using modules with a DSMC2 connection to provide the inputs and outputs that each occasion requires, connecting the relevant device directly to the back of the body. Among the connectors it offers we can find power interface pins (DC IN), HDMI, 3G-SDI (HD-SDI), CTRL and time code and Genlock ports. We will also find a 3.5mm microphone mini-jack input and a 3.5mm output level for headphones.
Among the monitoring options of the RED camera are the RED Touch 4.7″ LCD, RED Touch 9.0″, RED Touch 5.0″, RED PRO 7.0″ or RED Touch 7.0″ (compatible with the Lemo DSMC2 connections that the camera incorporates); but we also find port for adapter cable B and LCD/EVF.
RED Epic Dragon Camera Workflow
RED recommends the use of the REDCINE X-PRO software when working with the REDCODE format. This software package contains a series of programs intended to transcode and edit the recorded image in REDCODE RAW. Apart from transcoding, they allow you to manipulate the image from the point of view of scaling, reframing or color correction while preserving the RAW file intact, without suffering loss.
