The Red Epic Mysterium-X Second Hand camera was one of the first bets in digital cameras towards 3D IMAX cinema. With the MYSTERIUM-X sensor, without being super 35, it achieves 5K resolutions. Compact and small camera, no more than 2.6Kg. Modular design ideal for any type of accessories.

Sensor – Red Epic X Camera
The Red Epic Mysterium-X Second Hand has the 14 Megapixel MYSTERIUM-X sensor, which has a working area of 5120 x 2700 pixels. Regarding image coverage (lenses), it has a height of 27.7mm x 14.6mm (width) x 31.4mm (diagonal). With the capacity to reach more than 13 stops of latitude. The dynamic range can be extended to 18 stops with the HDRx recording mode.

Recording Formats – Red Epic X Camera

RED brings to the film industry a new recording format, patented by the house itself. This format is called R3D or REDCODE RAW. Default way of recording in all RED cameras on the current market.

This format efficiently encodes the measurements of the MYSTERIUM-X sensor. The Red Epic Mysterium-X Segunda Mano stores each color channel separately. It also carries out a use of variable bit rate "wavelet" in order to generate smaller files, performing compressions without suffering loss of quality. Within the settings of the format itself we can choose different compression factors in the RED EPIC-X camera, ranging from a 3:1 compression to 18:1. Depending on the chosen resolution, you can opt for some aspect ratios or others . It allows capturing in 5K in Full Format, 2:1, 2.4:1, 16:9, 1.22:1 and Anamorphic in factor 2x and 1.3x. Likewise, it can lead to other types of formats (DPX, 4:2:2, Quicktime, Avid, MXF...) once they are captured, some of these formats being originated at a maximum 4K resolution.

Regarding the frame rate, the Red Epic Mysterium-X Second Hand is capable of recording in REDCODE RAW, reaching a maximum frame rate of 120fps at 5K resolutions, and a maximum speed of 300fps capturing at 2K resolution.

The data recording media are made on REDMAG 1.8 or RED MINI-MAG recording cards, the latter with a maximum data transfer speed of 225 MB/s and 300 MB/s. Being able to choose between RED MINI-MAG of 120GB, 240GB, 480GB and 960GB.

Monitoring, Remote Control and Audio – Red Epic X Camera

The Red Epic Mysterium-X Second Hand camera provides a large number of monitoring options. Being able to choose between mini LCD touch monitors of different inches (RED Touch 5.0″ LCD, RED Touch PRO 7″ LCD, RED Touch 7.0″ LCD and RED Touch 9.0″ LCD). In addition, it has the option of a comfortable view finder called BOMB EVF, which can either be OLED or LCOS.

The Epic Mysterium-X Segunda Mano Network Offers the possibility of outputting a clean 3G-SDI (HD-SDI) signal or SMPTE timecode, HANC auxiliary metadata and 24 bit and 48kHz sound. Apart from an output to a 3G-SDI and HDMI monitor with guides or clean. These can be in 1080p at 4:2:2, 720p at 4:2:2 SMPTE Timecode, horizontal auxiliary metadata and with 24 bit audio at 48kHz.

As for the remote control, it allows connection wirelessly or via ethernet, RS232 and GPI Trigger. It has two channels of uncompressed 24-bit audio at 48kHz.

Workflow – Red Epic X Camera

As with any RED camera, the use of the REDCINE X-PRO software is recommended when processing the derived R3D files. Software composed of a line of programs intended for transcoding and manipulation (at the level of scale, color, reframing...) of REDCODE RAW files. REDCINE X-PRO will derive a new file from the native one, preserving the RAW file without having suffered any type of loss.
