The satellite equipment package includes a 2.4m uplink with an encoder that turns audio and video into a digital signal that is transmitted through the uplink.
The 100 receive site packages receive the transmitted signal ONLY since they have to oriented on the same satellite and same transponder as the transmitted signal.
The purpose of a digital satellite network is to distribute broadcast programming to specific receive sites tuned to that satellite, transponder and signal.
These are private satellite networks.
Examples of networks include:
Churches use these to distribute Sunday services to members of the church that may not be able to attend services or have moved to another state.
Indian tribes use these to distribute tribal information nationwide to tribal members that do not live on the local reservation.
The Mormon Church uses these to distribute their programming worldwide.
Distance Education Systems using a centralized instructor teaching in 100 different locations.
Business programming or training for satellite offices. (stores i.e. Wal-Mart TV, Advertising channel, etc)
The recurring costs of the satellite transponder rental is a significant issue to any new private network because of the FREE use of the Internet as a cost comparison.
In the worst case of rental of an hour of transponder time for distribution, a network might pay $500 for one hour but could be as little as $250.
If $500, it works out to $10 per site per hour which isn't too much to consider; half that if $250 per hour.
If each site has only 10 students, that is only $1 per hour per student; half that at $250 per hour.
FCC Licensing, Shipping, & Installation NOT included in price. It is the buyers responsibility to arrange for pickup or delivery after the sale.
