MCL MT4000 700W KU-Band TWTA is one of two exceptional TWTAs that we have received for testing. In order to separate them I am going to label this one as amplifier B, with another inventory listing for the amplifier A.
What makes this amplifier so remarkable is that when we received it it had zero operational hours on the clock, naturally this made us suspicious. The first thought that perhaps MCL use a battery to power the clock, as unlikely as it seems.
We turned this MCL MT4000 on and ran it for thirty minutes and repeated the test and each time the clock registered the new elapsed time. The take-away is that this amplifier was sitting on the shelf as a spare, but never never put into operation.
The maximum power output shows 723W with a Helix of 1.9mA and only 12 minutes on the clock. It has more now because we ran more tests.
We lost our beloved Agilent Power Meter last week, and so to measure the MCL MT4000 power output we had to use the front panel power display – and we always distrust those results. Not to worry though because we have a replacement power meter on the way.
When we are able to run the comprehensive range of tests that we will post them on this listing.
